Itineraries
Day 1
Distance: 30km Elevation gain:
Start your cycling adventure in Moshi, passing through the charming Shanty Town, an upscale residential suburb. If the weather is clear, you'll be treated to a magnificent view of Mount Kilimanjaro. Continue towards Change Village, known for its finger millet used in local brews and porridge. Cross the picturesque Change River, famous for its local brew, and then cross the Isie River, which leads to a former German-owned coffee estate. Take a moment to learn about the estate's history. As you meander past streams and through a thorny area, enjoy the excellent views of Kilimanjaro. Follow the route along River Umbwe towards the northeast until you reach Kindi Village. Cross the Kindi Valley and the wooden bridge over the Sere River. You'll come across a small rural shopping center where you might have the opportunity to visit the local market on Tuesdays and Fridays and interact with the locals. Continue the journey by crossing the Narumu Stream, conquering a steep hill to reach Mfoni Village, and then enjoy a thrilling downhill section to cross the Weruweru River and arrive at Machame Village. This lively village is located along the tarmac road leading to Machame Gate, one of the main starting points for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Overnight in Machame Village after a day filled with picturesque landscapes, banana and coffee farms, and enjoyable cycling.
Day 2
Distance: 25km Elevation gain:
Embark on a scenic ride through farmlands growing bananas, coffee, and tomatoes. Follow a meandering path that leads you to a stunning 50-meter high waterfall cascading from the Uwau River, which joins the larger Kikavu River downstream. These rivers serve as crucial water sources for the local communities and are extensively used for agriculture. After admiring the waterfall, continue cycling past Mshara Village to reach an excellent vantage point offering breathtaking views of the Mawenzi peaks. Follow the river until you reach the tarmac road, passing through banana and coffee farms, streams, and local village houses. Your destination for the day is Uswaa Village, where you'll spend the night. This day's ride is relatively easier as the terrain is flatter compared to the previous day. You'll cover a distance of approximately 20 kilometers, which can take 3-4 hours with stops
Day 3
Distance 12Km: Elevation gain:
On this final day, enjoy a leisurely downhill ride, crossing streams and rivers originating from Mount Kilimanjaro. Take the opportunity to visit German ruins and immerse yourself in the sights and sounds of the mountain's natural beauty. Gradually descend until you reach the main road connecting Moshi and Arusha. A vehicle will be waiting there to transport you and your bikes back to Moshi. The ride back may take around 3-4 hours, including stops along the way. The total distance for this day is approximately 12 kilometers.
